Flower Pens!
Hello Again,
Sorry about the grammatical errors in the previous post, we are still learning to proof read BEFORE we publish our post. :) Our craft today is a flower pen! You may have seen these all over the place like we have, and wondered how to make these wonderful little pens. We got our original craft instructions from The Frugal Girls at thefrugalgirls.com. We made a few mistakes but we were able to finish the craft with beautiful results!
Here is what you need:
- Pens (we used BIC black pens)
- Fake Flowers (dollar stores!)
- Floral Tape (local craft store)
- Hot Glue Gun (BE CAREFUL!)
- Scissors (Safety scissors are always welcomed)
- Pliers ( ours had a wire cutter built in which was helpful)
- Jamming Music (helps keep up moral when you mess up)
Here we go!!
1) Pick out a beautiful flower from your local dollar store or secret stash of fake flowers (we bought about 8 bouquets so we would have many different flower choices)
2) After you choose flower, grab a pen! Make sure you take the cap off. You are going to have to pry the top of the pen off. We used our pliers and a lot of muscle. It can be very difficult, so don't get discouraged! You can do it!!
3) This part is fun, at least for us! You have to take apart your flower. We cut our stem about two inches to four inches down from the flower and then pulled off the leaves. You will use the leaves later, so please don't throw them away!
4) Now we are going to hot glue our flower to the pen! This can get a little sticky so make sure to be careful and not to burn your fingers.
4) As the hot glue is drying, push your leaves down onto the hot glue. Make sure to take off any plastic the leaves have in them, you just want the cloth leaves with a hole in the center to push down.
5) Now you must wrap the floral tape around your pen! This will make the flower pen look more like a flower and less like a pen.. It is really easy to do and quite enjoyable. Make sure to start at the tip of the pen (where the pen writes) and work your way up! Wrap the floral tape tightly!
6) Continue wrapping your floral tape until you get to base the flower. When we got to the base, we cut a little extra of the floral tape and put a dot of hot glue onto it before we finished wrapping. This will keep our floral wrapping from unraveling! As always, please be careful with the hot glue, it will burn, we know from experience!
7) Yay! You are all done! Hopefully your flower came out just as beautiful as ours did! These are great little pens that you can use at home, at work, or anywhere. They also make cheap but adorable gifts!
We wish you the best of luck with your flower pen! If you run into any problems or have any hints to make this craft a little easier, please let us know! Stay tuned for more crafts!!
Happy Crafting,
The Craft Girls

1) Pick out a beautiful flower from your local dollar store or secret stash of fake flowers (we bought about 8 bouquets so we would have many different flower choices)
This was our flower selection!
2) After you choose flower, grab a pen! Make sure you take the cap off. You are going to have to pry the top of the pen off. We used our pliers and a lot of muscle. It can be very difficult, so don't get discouraged! You can do it!!
Our pen without it's cap
This the pen without a top and the pliers we used to remove the top!
This is our flower taken apart!
This is our flower, we flipped ours upside down to make gluing a little bit easier!
Put the glue in a ring around the base of the flower!
Quickly push the open end of the pen down into the hot glue and allow it dry.
4) As the hot glue is drying, push your leaves down onto the hot glue. Make sure to take off any plastic the leaves have in them, you just want the cloth leaves with a hole in the center to push down.
Tada!!
Here is our half-finished pen and floral tape!
Begin wrapping at the tip of the pen! Wrap tightly!!
We left a little extra tape where we will put the hot glue and finish wrapping!
Hot glued into place! :)
Our finished product!
Very pretty and useful!!
